Decorating a page

Any week, month or year can be decorated the way a journal page is: paper under it, and stickers, tape, photos, writing and drawings placed over it. The page underneath still plans exactly as it did.

In short
  1. StartThe round button at the bottom left of the page, Decorate this page.
  2. Add somethingThe bar at the foot: writing, tape, a shape, a pen, stickers, a photo.
  3. Move it behindSend backward far enough and it sits under the page itself.
  4. Reuse oneLayouts, in the same bar: last week's, an earlier one, or a favorite.
  5. StopDone. Or Remove this layout, and the page goes back to plain.

Getting into it

  1. Open any week, month or year and press the round button at the bottom left.
  2. A bar appears at the foot of the screen. That is the whole toolset.
  3. Press Done when you have finished.

Every page is plain until you decorate it. A new week starts blank, nothing is copied from the last one, and just opening a page adds nothing to it.

What is in the bar

  • Add writing, tape, a shape, a photo drop in the middle of what you are looking at, ready to drag where you want them.
  • Draw takes out a pen. Press it again to put the pen away.
  • Stickers opens the drawer to search and pick from.
  • Paper sets what the page is printed on.
  • Layouts is the gallery of ones you have made before.

Photos only, and no mood or task cards. A layout is a still picture, so anything that has to be played does not go on one.

In front of the page, or behind it

Bring forward and Send backward move a thing one layer at a time, and the page itself is one of those layers. New things land in front; keep sending something backward and it passes behind the week and shows through the gaps.

Reusing one you liked

Layouts opens a drawer of every page you have decorated, newest first, with the last one shown separately as Recent. Press one to apply it to this page. Keep this layout saves the one you are on as a favorite, so it is offered on every page after.

Applying replaces whatever this period was wearing, in one step, so there is no confirm: one undo puts it back.

It never gets in the way

Outside the editor, decorations do not take clicks. A tap through a sticker lands on the task under it, exactly as it would on a plain page.

If a subscription ends, your layouts stop being drawn and every task, habit and note on those pages stays exactly where it was. Subscribing again brings the decoration back with nothing to restore.

Does next week start with what I did this week?

No. A new period is plain. Last week's is offered at the top of the Layouts drawer as Recent, one press to apply.

I decorated my week at a desk. Why does my phone look plain?

A desk and a phone hold their own layout for the same period, because a page arranged across seven columns does not mean anything stacked into one. Decorate the phone separately, or apply a favorite to it.

My sticker is not quite where I put it. Why?

A decoration placed on a task, or inside a day's cell, follows it: add a task above and it moves down with the list, and on a wider or narrower screen it stays beside the same day. One placed in the masthead, or placed before this behaviour existed, only scales with the page, so as the week reflows it ends up near where you put it rather than exactly there. Pick it up and put it down once, and it follows properly from then on.

A removed task leaves its decoration where the task was, in the same cell. A task moved to another day leaves it behind.

Does a favorite land in the same place on another week?

By category and by day: the second category's Wednesday is the second category's Wednesday on any week, so a favorite lands inside the same cell at the same height. It cannot follow a task that only exists on the week it was made on, so it sits where that task was.

How do I get the page back to plain?

Remove this layout, at the top of the Layouts drawer. It takes the whole dressing off that one period and leaves everything you wrote.

How is this different from a journal page?

Same tools, different paper. A journal page is a blank sheet for a day; this is the same canvas laid over a page that is already planning something. See Journaling.
